RICHMOND, Va. -- Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed early Friday morning in south Richmond.

"At approximately 12:45 a.m. officers responded to the intersection of Broad Rock Boulevard and Epperson Avenue for the report of random gunfire," a Richmond Police spokesperson wrote in an email. "When officers arrived they located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in the 4700 block of Epperson Avenue."

That man, whose name has not yet been released was pronounced on scene.

As the sun came up Friday morning, two neighbors told CBS 6 they heard the gunshots the night before.

One said she was awoken to the sound of gunfire and screaming from outside her bedroom window -- just yards away from a daycare.

Anyone with information was asked to call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
