FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. -- Authorities said the 17-year-old boy wanted for killing his mother and six-year-old brother on Valentine's Day in Fauquier County was captured in North Carolina Saturday evening.
Deputies with the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office said Levianthan "Levi" Henry Norwood was taken into custody after store employees called police to report a shoplifter.
The 2007 Toyota Camry Levi Norwood was reported to be driving was also recovered, officials said.
"Sheriff’s detectives are en route to North Carolina at this time," deputies said.
Deputies previously said Norwood should not be approached after authorities were dispatched to a home in the 12000-blk Elk Run Road in Midland for a report of a shooting at 6 p.m. Friday.
"Investigation identified the victim of a shooting, who advised his wife and six-year-old child were shot and deceased," officials said in a news release early Saturday. "The male identified the shooter as his son."
The father discovered his wife and young son dead when he returned home around 6 p.m., according to WUSA.
That is when the man was confronted by his 17-year-old son, who then fired several shots at his father, WUSA reported.
Officials said the father was able to make it out of the home and call 911. He was transported to an area hospital.
Deputies entered the home around 10:15 p.m. after trying to "establish contact with the shooter for several hours."
It was then that officials realized the boy had fled and was not barricaded inside the home.
Norwood, who is wanted for two counts of murder, is described as a white male, 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 125 pounds. Officials said he has brown eyes and dyed purple hair, but they do not have a description of the clothing he was wearing.
"Do not confront Levi, he is considered armed and dangerous," officials previously said.
Officials urged residents in the area to "shelter in place" as law enforcement search "a large area of woodland, fields and outbuildings."
"If possible, please bring all pets inside residences," deputies said. "If you live in the area expect a visit from law enforcement to check on your welfare."
Deputies also warned of roadblocks in the area near the crime scene.
