POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. -- A Powhatan County woman has been charged with filing a false police report after deputies say lied about being attacked by a Black couple.

Deputies say 63-year-old Gladys Townsend reported Tuesday that she had been assaulted by a Black female and black male on Ridge Road.

An investigation by the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the assault did not take place.

She has been charged with filing a false police report.

Deputies say the case remains under further investigation and department will not further comment at this time.
