NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- COVID-19 is causing a lot of chaos, but a newlywed couple in Newport News credits their nuptials to the virus.

In their senior living facility’s chapel, 90-year-old Leo Walsh and 82-year-old Madeline Hardison Walsh recited their marriage vows after 6 years of friendship.

“We liked doing the same activities together and got along really well,” the groom said of their meeting.

The Walshs had no plans to get married until COVID-19 sent their large community into a strict lockdown and they ended up quarantined together.

“Life is fragile, and you never know what’s around the corner,” Madeline Walsh said.

The couple shared the story of their union in hopes it might be uplifting to others and show some good moments can come out of tough circumstances.
