HAMPTON, Va. -- It's the moment some fishers have been waiting almost a year for: The James T. Wilson fishing pier at Buckroe Beach reopened Saturday.

The pier was damaged in November when a barge broke free and crashed into it during a storm. No one was hurt during the incident.

The pier will now be open for regular hours through December, then it will close until April.

Some folks said they showed up as early as 5:30 a.m. for the grand opening at 8 a.m.

"I couldn't wait for this to open back up," one angler said. "I'm from Waverly to try and catch me some trouts before I go home. I ain't going home without any."

Everyone visiting the pier is asked to wear a masks and stay 10 feet away from each other. There is a cap of 160 anglers on the pier at one time.
