RICHMOND, Va. -- Two best friends were an inspiration to everyone along their route during the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K this weekend.
Meredyth Sauter and Meredith Tyree met through Sportable, an organization that creates opportunities for athletes with disabilities.
The friends, who have trained for several races together, completed their own 10K course Saturday along with their guides.
“It doesn't matter if you're physically disabled, emotionally, visually, hearing impaired, it doesn't matter,” Meredyth Sauter said. “We're 35,000 strong, we're out here today."
"We might bump into you, but we'll just say, ‘Excuse me,'" Meredith Tyree laughed.
This year's race, which was moved from the Spring because of the pandemic, is taking place at four different parks this Friday, Saturday and Sunday or virtually through Oct. 18.
