Chesterfield men charged with murdering a man in Richmond home

RICHMOND, Va. -- Police arrested two Chesterfield men and charged them in the murder of Maurice Watson-Bey.

Watson-Bey, described by police as a man in his 40s, was found dead inside a home on Byswick Lane in South Richmond, on February 2, 2021.

Michael Harris, 58, of Chesterfield, and Lamel Smith, 35, of North Chesterfield were both been charged with murder, assault during the commission of a felony, statutory burglary, and attempted robbery.

Police were called to the Byswick Lane home at about 11:42 p.m. for the report of an assault.

No information was released about the suspects' relationship to Watson-Bey nor a motive for the violence.
