COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. – Two tractor-trailer drivers and a passenger were injured Thursday morning after colliding on Interstate 95 in Colonial Heights.
Virginia State Police responded to a two vehicle crash at southbound I-95 at the Southpark Boulevard exit (mile marker 53) at 10:20 a.m.
“The preliminary investigation reveals a 2017 Freightliner tractor trailer hauling pharmaceuticals was traveling southbound in the left lane when the adult male driver attempted to veer back into the right lane of travel,” said a state police spokesperson.
“As result, the tractor trailer hauling pharmaceuticals side swiped a 2018 Freightliner tractor trailer hauling flour that was in the right lane of travel. Both tractor trailer's lost control striking the guardrail and running off the road left. The tractor trailer hauling flour overturned, losing its load.
The female driver of the tractor trailer hauling flour was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The male driver of the tractor trailer hauling pharmaceuticals and a female passenger were also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
All three individuals were wearing their seat belts, according to investigators.
Police say the crash remains under investigation.
The crash closed multiple southbound travel lanes on I-95.
