HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Seniors and essential workers received doses of COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday at the Richmond Raceway, but it wasn't supposed to be that way.

Many of the people vaccinated Tuesday had their appointments last Thursday and Friday postponed due to icy weather.

The four main health districts in Central Virginia had to reschedule a total of 11 vaccination clinics due to last week's weather.

The weather also delayed shipments of the Moderna vaccine to Virginia.

Clinic organizers at the Raceway said they received the last of their catch-up shipment Tuesday and had to adjust their original plans.

"We were going to try to do some Moderna yesterday, but we didn't have the Moderna in to do first doses with it. So we had to switch gears and do Pfizer yesterday instead of using Moderna for first doses," Henrico County Chief of Emergency Management and Workplace Safety Jackson Baynard said. "But, because we had other events planned later in the week we could count on that other vaccine to come in to adjust to use that for first doses."
