HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- Hanover County Parks and Recreation has closed parks, athletic fields, and picnic shelters until further notice to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The moves comes days after Virginia Governor issued a stay-at-home executive order to enforce the importance of non-essential travel.

Additionally, historic sites and Pole Green Park skate park will close and all Parks and Recreation-sponsored programs and activities are canceled through Sunday, May 17.

The department previously suspended spring program registrations and are now postponing summer program and camp registration indefinitely.

“At this time, Hanover County parks remain open, including open spaces, trails and dog parks,” said a Hanover County Parks and Recreation spokesperson.

“Be advised that the amenities in these areas are not sanitized, so use with caution and follow the CDC health and safety guidelines. We reiterate the critical importance of social distancing and avoidance of gatherings and group activities.”
