MONTPELIER, Va. -- Running a ranch is not cheap. Allison Boyd runs Wings of Hope Ranch in Montpelier solely off donations.
"We have a handful of churches that donate every month," Boyd said about her ranch that serves as a Christian ministry that rescues and rehabilitates neglected horses, and uses them to help children facing conflicts or challenges, free of charge. "We have people that just send donations, regularly or annually. One big-time donation we just got at the end of the year helped us build our forever home, covered arena."
"When we were here, we saw what a great thing that you were doing in the community and an awesome thing you were doing with these kids helping them with their sensory issues. And in turn, they became better students," Cardwell told Boyd on a return trip to the ranch. "Well, that moved us so much at CBS 6 that we're not just here for an update. We're also here to give you a gift. We know how expensive it is to take care of these horses and to keep this place running."
Cardwell told Boyd the ranch would receive a $200 donation to help feed the horses.
"That will keep you going for a little while," Boyd said to her horse named Samson. "That is so generous and kind."
