HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- Brightening the community's Christmas season is part of CBS 6's Month of Giving mission.
Registered Nurse Kaithlyn Ragan thought she was in trouble when her colleagues escorted her into the lobby of the Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center, but instead, she received the ultimate surprise:
A visit from CBS 6 reporter Melissa Hipolit, who came with a gift, with the help of Virginia Credit Union.
Ragan is a nurse in the Progressive Care Unit, which is where patients with COVID-19 are treated.
Ragan, mom to a 7-month-old, contracted COVID herself when the virus first came to Central Virginia, and so did her baby.
And, yet, once she recovered, she immediately wanted to return to caring for COVID patients.
Ragan said she has been with several COVID patients in their final moments of life, but she has also helped save several lives.
Ragan's supervisors and colleagues were inspired by her bravery and work ethic, and nominated her for our CBS 6 Gives segment.
Hipolit surprised Ragan with a gift card to Scents of Serenity Organic Spa, and the spa contributed some extra goodies.
