RICHMOND, Va. -- In an effort to make Christmas brighter for those in the community, CBS 6 and Virginia Credit Union have teamed up to present the Month of Giving.
Every day, a member of the CBS 6 family will be out in the community surprising someone with a holiday gift.
Meteorologist, professional musician and teacher Mike Goldberg chose to gift a Richmond-area classical music academy with a donation because of the challenges they face because of the pandemic.
"The GreenSpring International Academy of Music has become a pillar in our community providing music education from youngsters to older adults all across the region," Goldberg said.
Amber Coppin, GreenSpring's director for this fall semester, said the academy's mission is to provide music education to people of all ages, backgrounds and ability levels.
"We are incredibly diverse in our student body. And we also have students from age four all the way up into their 80s. We offer music lessons currently because of the pandemic online. But we also have some hybrid, in-person socially distance lessons available, too. And it is our mission to really create a more equitable and beautiful world through music."
Goldberg said the academy's mission is so important "because music feeds the soul, it provides healing."
Goldberg surprised Coppin by making a contribution to GreenSpring.
"That is is really wonderful surprise. Thank you so much. We will cherish that," Coppin said. "We are so grateful for the community's support right now. It has been a challenging year financially. We have lost a lot of our normal revenue from our concert seasons and tours because of the pandemic...What an incredible gift."
