RICHMOND, Va. -- When Meagen Lewis found out her family was growing in July, she also soon learned she had Stage-3 Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) breast cancer.
“I had noticed a lump there for quite a while, and I just decided to ignore it,” said Lewis. “Then I went in to confirm my pregnancy and then that's when they're like, ‘Oh, we should probably have that checked out.’ That checked out and came back cancer.”
The 33-year old had a mastectomy and because the cancer spread to her lymph nodes she had to undergo chemotherapy. She just finished four rounds. They are taking her baby girl who she will name Eleanore, three weeks early March 2, so she can continue treatment.
The couple also has a two-year-old son, so finding time for each other during this difficult time has been a challenge.
“It's been tough. It's funny because when we go to chemo, it's like our date day,” said Lewis.
Laura French tricked Lewis into thinking she was doing a story on her positive experience at Planet Hair where she purchased her wig after losing her hair.
French met Lewis at the salon and started an interview.
Lewis was about to find out that CBS 6 was there for her!
Salon owner Cheryl Tankersley played along and started brushing out Lewis’ wig when French entered back into the room.
“So Megan, I typically don't lie, but today you're not here for a story at all. You're here because you've been through heck and back this year, and your date day should not consist of your chemo appointments," French said. “Here at CBS 6, we do something called 6 Gives and you deserve this more than ever.”

“Thank you so much!” said Lewis
“We always say that all we ask is that you pay it forward whenever it is in your heart. We just want to see you get healthy for your babies, for your son and for your daughter,” said French.
“Thank you. I appreciate this,” said Lewis tearfully.
“This is the time where I want to hug someone. We're just gonna give each other a big elbow hug,” French said.
