DALLAS -- Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garret announced that Tony Romo has broken a bone in his back, according to NFL.com.

The starting quarterback was hurt during Thursday’s pre-season game against the Seattle Seahawks after taking a hit that nearly bent him in half.

Garret is not giving a timetable on Romo's return, but an insider speculates he likely will not return until mid-season at the earliest.

"We're confident that he's going to be coming back and playing football for us this year," Garret said.
