Crews battle kitchen fire in Henrico’s East End

Posted

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Fire crews have contained a kitchen fire that broke out in the county’s East End Saturday afternoon.

Fire units responded to the report of a kitchen fire just after 1:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of Vawter Avenue off of East Laburnum Avenue and Savannah Avenue. Personnel arrived within five minutes to find all the occupants of the house outside and smoke showing from all four sides of the single family residence.

Crews were able to quickly enter the home and contain the fire to the stove where it started, with some extensions to the cabinet above it. The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes.

Investigators determined that the cause of the fire was unattended food on the stove. While there were no injuries or fatalities, fire personnel report that two house cats are currently unaccounted for despite an extensive search.
