The lambs and lions of March weather

RICHMOND, Va. — The month of March is a quite variable one for Virginia.  We have had weather ranging from monster snowstorms to summer-like heat.  A “normal” March features normal high temperatures jumping 10° from the mid 50s to the mid 60s.  March is also typically our fourth wettest month.

In terms of snowfall, many years have had a snow-free March.  Isolated years have had some major winter storms in March that have dumped significant snow.  In the top 10 snowiest Marches on record, the snow totals have ranged from around 6″ to 20″.  A normal March produces about an inch of snow.

March also contains the springing forward to Daylight Saving Time on Sunday, March 13 at 2 a.m., and the start of astronomical Spring on March 20.
