RICHMOND, Va. --A woman was assaulted and robbed on July 17, around 12:40 p.m., while walking in the 3200 block of Ellwood Avenue

The victim told police she was approached by a female who attempted to grab her purse. The suspect assaulted the victim and stole the purse.

“The individual attempted to grab her purse, which knocked her down to the ground. At that point the suspect began kicking her and punching her and took the purse,” said Det. William Cutshall with Richmond police.

Detectives investigating the case discovered the suspect had used a credit card from the robbery soon afterwards at the Exxon at 1701 East Broad Street in Shockoe Bottom.

Cutshall said the woman tried to disguise herself by taking off her t-shirt and wrapping it around her head.

The suspect is described as a black female, approximately 5-foot 7-inches tall and weighing 210 pounds, who wore a white t-shirt, blue jeans and a black hat. She fled the scene on foot.

The crime happened outside of Angi Dunleavy's home. She and others in the neighborhood are unnerved and hope police catch the suspect quickly.

“People are not the nicest and they’re not the smartest,” Dunleavy said. “I know that happens and it happened here, so it’s not that surprising.”

Detectives ask anyone with any information about this person to call Third Precinct Detective William Cutshall at 804-646-1068 or call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
