LEAVITTSBURG, Ohio — A reporter covering a house fire in Ohio recently got quite the surprise when a woman accused a family member of starting the fire during a live report on morning television last Thursday.
WBKN reports the fire started in a garage on Burwell Road around 3:45 a.m. before spreading to a second garage and damaging two homes.
Derrick Lewis, a reporter from WBKN covering the fire, asked resident Heather Tenney what she witnessed.
“I opened the door and saw this blazing from the garage. I woke up my husband and we got out as fast as we could,” Tenney told WBKN. “I had him move the cars out-of-the-way and go back inside and get the dogs.”
Next the video shows the reporter asking Tenney if she had any idea how the blaze started.
“It was cause of my cousin and I don’t want to mention no names,” she said. “He is mad because he can’t get with me. I am married to my husband. It’s a long story, just to make it short. He already put him in the hospital once last month. And he figured he’s gonna do something else to get back.”
No one was injured.
Investigators said the fire appears suspicious and they do have a person of interest in the case, but so far no charges have been filed.
