RICHMOND, Va. -- A cold front moved into the area Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing some slight relief from the heat on Wednesday.   This front has now lifted north of the area again, which is allowing the hotter temperatures to return.  Highs will be close to or above 90° for much of central Virginia.

Widely scattered storms will develop and track across the state into this evening.  Any storm that develops will wring out the muggy air in the form of torrential downpours.

Isolated storms could become severe with damaging winds as the primary threat.  Storms will fade after sunset.

You can track the storms with our CBS 6 Interactive Radar, as well as the CBS 6 Weather Authority App, which includes our forecasts, interactive radar and severe alerts.  This app will also alert you when lightning is close by.
