HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A Henrico parent was hailed a hero this week for her quick action at a high school soccer game. Akinyi Owino-Ward, a parent of a Tucker High School student, noticed a Deep Run varsity soccer player in medical distress after the game girls varsity soccer game at Deep Run High School in Glen Allen. The registered nurse realized the student was having a cardiac arrest and used a defibrillator to restart the teenager's heart.

"We took her down from the bleachers, put her on the ground and shocked her twice. We continued CPR until the rescue squad came in and got her," Owino-Ward.

The student's name and condition has not been released. Owino-Ward said she wanted to stress the importance of learning CPR.
