Elkhardt, Thompson middle schools merging

RICHMOND, Va. -- Elkhardt Middle School students are in for another big move.  Richmond Public School Board members voted 9-0 on Monday night to merge Elkhardt and Thompson middle schools.

Elkhardt Middle students were abruptly moved out of their building in February because of a toxic mold issue. The school quickly setup shop in Clark Springs Elementary School, but later school officials realized the school was not large enough and was not equipped to house middle school students.

The students would stay at Thompson while a new school, large enough to house both Thompson and Elkhardt students, was built. The vote was scheduled to happen a couple weeks ago, but school board members postponed the vote.

CBS 6 will have more details during the 11 p.m. broadcast.
