CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Police say they're looking for cars with fresh front-end damage and confirm  they've gone door-to- door in the Chester neighborhood where a teenager was killed Tuesday night.

16-year-old Steffond Swilley, Jr. is “already greatly missed," according to Pastor Wesley McLaughlin. Swilley was killed by a hit-and-run driver as he searched the neighborhood streets for his baby brother that night.

Because the community off Greyshire Road has only one way in, and one way out, CBS 6 crime expert Steve Neal explains why the layout may help with clues.

"I think a door-to-door canvas will be a good investigative tool,” said Neal. He says the area where Swilley was found will certainly be a  focal point of the investigation.

"Investigating a hit-and-run -- it's a physical evidence case and the focus will be on what was left at the scene," said Neal.

While police continue to look for those involved, people who know Swilley remember his kind spirit and faith.

"Very faithful and committed to the ministry, he was a big part of the youth ministry at our church,” said McLaughlin. He said Swilley was a leader in a church program called Thursday Thunder and says this Thursday won't be the same.

McLaughlin was at the hospital when the teen was pronounced dead. He hopes whoever was driving the mystery car will come to their senses.

"To whomever the person is, do the right thing,” said McLaughlin. “Give this family some closure. I believe we live among good people, people with hearts.  I pray they'll come forward."

Police are urging folks that live in that area, especially in that neighborhood, if they have information about the car or its driver to call police.
