SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. — Crews battled a large brush fire nearing a shopping center and a home in Spotsylvania County Sunday evening.
The Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department said crews were dispatched to a pine tree that had caught fire behind the Food Lion on Spotsylvania Avenue around 5:30 p.m.
As of 6 p.m., the department posted on its Facebook page that the fire had closed off access to Mine Road at Falcon Drive.
One firefighter was transferred to an area hospital for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.
“Due to wind conditions open flames may spread rapidly,” read a post on the fire department’s Facebook page. “Please refrain from burning outside for the rest of the day. Thank You.”
