GREENSVILLE COUNTY, Va. — Dominion Virginia Power is hoping to build a new power plant in Greensville.
The utility announced its plans for a 1600-megawatt natural gas power station. The plant would cost $1 billion to build and would generate enough power for 400,000 homes.
The plan is pending regulatory approval, but if it is approved, construction would begin in 2016. The plant would be operational by 2019.
Dominion officials say they picked Greensville because it’s close to transmission and natural gas lines, to water, and to railroads and major highways.
