NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — Leonardo DiCaprio, one of the most famous actors in Hollywood, has agreed to a partnership with Netflix to produce documentaries for the streaming service.
With the multi-year deal, DiCaprio and his production company “Appian Way” will identify and develop “fact-based” projects focusing on environment and conservation for Netflix.

“There’s never been a more critical time for our planet or more of a need for gifted storytellers to help us all make sense of the issues we face,” DiCaprio said in a statement Wednesday. “I hope to give documentary filmmakers doing urgent and important work the chance to have their films seen immediately by audiences all around the world.”
DiCaprio will serve as a producer or executive producer on all upcoming projects via the partnership.
This won’t be the first time the actor has partnered with Netflix.
DiCaprio and the streaming service first worked together on the documentary “Virunga,” which spotlighted gorilla conservation.
The film was critically acclaimed and was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at this year’s Academy Awards.
DiCaprio is known for his philanthropy and work with protecting the environment.
The actor even spoke at the UN Climate Summit, was named a UN Messenger of Peace, and stood with thousands in New York City’s People’s Climate March in September.
“Honored delegates, leaders of the world, I pretend for a living but you do not,” DiCaprio said to the Summit in September. “The time to answer humankind’s greatest challenge is now.”
