WEEKEND Events: RVA International Film Fest & Polar Plunge Winter Fest

RICHMOND: Richmond International Film Festival, through Sunday, March 1st. More than 120 international award-winning films are being featured in the Richmond area with more than 20 countries represented. There will also be industry panels, Q&As, live musical performances, red carpet awards, and entertainment mixers bringing  the spirit of Hollywood into Virginia's Bowtie Movieland/Criterion, the Virginia Historical Society, and the historic Byrd Theater. The first 100 ticket holders to the showing of The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappearedo the Byrd Theater Sunday at 1:30pm will get a free latte from Alchemy.  The movie is part of the Swedish Spotlight also you can see "Contamination" a short film produced by Robin S. Fashionable Frozen, RVA Polar Plunge Winter Fest, benefiting Special Olympics, Saturday, February 28, kicks off at 11am, Plunges will take place in an above ground pool at Westhampton Field (901 Maple Avenue near Libbie and Patterson) in waves beginning at noon with Virginia Commonwealth University's Rodney the Ram leading the way. The fest includes health and sports vendors exhibits, music, special guest emcees Bill Bevins and Shelly Perkins from Easy 100.9. Cultural Libations presents an "Entertainment Symposium": Say It Loud, I’m Black & I’m Proud: The Soul & Spirit of James Brown. Performed by local James Brown impersonator Joseph Bagby, the program is on Friday, February 27th at 7:30pm at Unity of Richmond, 800 Blanton Avenue, Richmond and will be hosted by Professor Renee Charlow of Bowie State University and features local smooth jazz band, QuintEssential Jazz, performing some of James Brown's hits. Cancelled Event: The Andraé Crouch Tribute scheduled for April 16 has been cancelled. With the recent passing of Andraé Crouch, the producers do not feel it is in the best interest of all involved to continue with the tribute tour. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase. Customers who purchased their tickets with a credit card online, by phone, or in person at the Altria Theater Box Office will automatically be credited. FUTURE Events: The 2nd Annual Projekt for Progress featuring Dj Williams Projekt on Thursday, March 5th, 6-10pm at The Answer Brewpub at 6008 W. Broad Street,  in support of ACE Liberia and the Anne Sandell Independent School (ASIS).
