Flames from Northside fire melts siding of neighboring homes

RICHMOND, Va. -- Yellow crime tape, broken windows, and charred debris scattered everywhere -- a devastating scene in a Northside neighborhood.

"My son, he actually was actually screaming, ‘fire, fire, fire,’” said Lawanda Glover.

Glover captured this cell phone video from across the street.

"The only thing I could think of is ‘Lord please, let everyone be out,’” said Glover

Glover said watching this home go up in flames brings back painful memories.

"It hurts,” said Glover. "We actually experienced a house fire and we lost everything.

“And it was devastating to the whole family.”

Glover explained that the fire happened 12 years ago to her family’s Louisa County home.

It took firefighters nearly an hour to put out the intense flames at the burned out home in Richmond.

"I've never seen fire take off like that,” said Zakariyya Zabor.

The flames melted the siding of Zabors' home.

"I saw the flames from my window and started getting my kids,” said Zabor. “We all came outside.”

Neighbors tell CBS 6, three people lived in the home on Lamb Avenue. One man who was at home at the time of the fire got out safely.

Another man was unaccounted for, for several hours.  Investigators feared he could have been inside. But they tracked him down Friday afternoon near the neighborhood.

And that was the best news for neighbors living on the block.

"I'm happy that he wasn't there,” said Zabor.

Investigators have not yet determined what caused the fire, but the family that owns that home destroyed by fire, also owns another one next door, which, they tell CBS 6, was destroyed by fire 15 years ago.
