CANCELLED: Richmond Chinese Lunar New Year Festival, sponsored by the Organization of Chinese Americans, Central Virginia Chapter, Event scheduled for February 21, 10am – 3pm at James River High School, Midlothian, has been cancelled. Postponed: Elegba Folklore Society African Drum Workshop, African Dance & Cultural Traditions and The Talking Gourd Saturday, scheduled for The February 21st have all been postponed. The African Drum Workshop Classes will resume February 28, open to all, ages 6 – 86. Black History Month Events: Elegba Folklore Society 101 E Broad St, will present The Talking Gourd in Chesterfield on February 28, LaPrade Library, 9000 Hull Street Rd. @10:30am, at Chester Library, 11800 Centre St, Chester @ 2pm and at Elegba Folklore Society’s Cultural Center, on March 7 @ 4pm. This interactive solo presentation works through images, oral histories, music and ceremony to culturally enrich audiences regarding Mother Africa’s global contributions and influence. Other events happening in RVA: The City Dance Theatre of Richmond presents, A Red Carpet Event “A Harlem Night at the Hippodrome” Sunday, February 22nd, 4pm at The Hippodrome Theater, 528 North 2nd Street, Richmond. The 2015 “RVAs Got Talent” winners along with singers, dancers, actors will perform in an evening of fashion, song and dance reliving the days of the Harlem Renaissance and the Historic Cotton Club of New York City. Performers also include a female illusionist, come dressed the part and walk the red carpet and be transported to an era when black art, music, poetry and dance flourished. City of Richmond Black History Month Event: The City’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities group art exhibit “Isn’t She Lovely” featuring more than twenty prominent African-American artists at the Pine Camp Arts and Community Center, 4901 Old Brook Road.
