CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — Chesterfield County Public Schools has announced changes to its calendar to make up for the days students missed because of winter weather.
School leaders announced Thursday afternoon that two early-release days have been canceled. Additionally, the district is adding 15 minutes to the school day for a portion of second semester:
• Feb. 25 and March 25, originally scheduled as three-hour early release days, will now be regular school days.
• From March 2 through April 30, 15 minutes will be added to the end of the normal instructional day.
The school system was closed for six days (Jan. 14, Jan. 27 and Feb. 17-20) and had a two-hour delay on Jan. 15 because of winter weather.
Officials said the added time will allow the district to make up 16 hours of the 41 hours missed so far this winter.
“Missing so much class time disrupted our students’ education,” Superintendent Marcus Newsome said in a news release. “To keep students on pace with our curriculum, we must make up some of that missed time.”
