FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Two weeks after his wife was taken to Florida, 95-year-old Virginia man has died, according toaffiliate WUSA.
Eddie Harrison married 96-year-old Edith Hill in 2013.
Their “fairytale” marriage turned into a family nightmare when one of Hill’s daughters said her mother couldn’t make independent decisions about her house or her care because she has dementia.
Hill was taken from Harrison after a court hearing that ruled in favor of Hill being with family caretakers.
Another daughter, Rebecca Wright, said her sister wanted to separate Hill and Harrison because she wanted to sell her mother’s house and get the money. Wright didn’t want to see her mother go, according to WUSA.
“I want my wife back; I want her back home with me. She didn’t want to go and I didn’t want her to go,” Harrison told WUSA9 two weeks before he died.
Harrison stayed in Alexandria in Hill’s home with Wright.
“I was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia and I lived there all my life and she was born in Virginia and she’s lived in Virginia all of her life,” Harrison said to WUSA.
The daughter said he was never himself again once his wife was removed from the home. She says he often looked out the window waiting for her to come home.
And that’s when he gave up his will to live, Wright said.
Harrison died on Tuesday after being hospitalized with the flu, a day after talking to his wife.
According to WUSA, Hill’s family said she is too fragile to return to Virginia for the funeral.
