GREENE COUNTY, Va. -- Investigators in Greene County are trying to figure out what sparked a mobile home fire Friday evening in Ruckersville that killed a four-year-old boy.

Just days before Christmas the family is dealing with a heartbreaking loss after a fire erupted while the family was celebrating a birthday.

As of Monay night at 10:45 p.m., more than $5,000 had been raised for the family.

According to a GoFundMe siteset up in the family's name, the mother was inside the trailer with her two little boys when it burst into flames.

Published reports said that the woman and her two-year-old son managed to make it out of the home and were taken to the hospital.

There has been no word yet on what sparked the fire.

Neighbors said they are saddened by the news and that the family is in their prayers.

"My heart goes out, especially the girl, I don’t know who the father is exactly… And my heart just goes out to both of them, especially right here during Christmas time. It's sad," said neighbor Marlena Morris.

Fire investigators in Greene County are working with police on this investigation.
