HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – The New York-based grocery chain Wegmans announced a proposed opening date on Wednesday, after the finalization of a land deal.
The opening date for the Short Pump Wegmans is now tentatively planned for June 2016.
Thalhimer’s Vice President Mark Douglas confirmed the groundbreaking ceremony is expected to happen next month.
The Henrico Planning Commission gave final approval for the 400,000 plus square foot project in October.
The Wegmans will look similar to other Wegmans in Virginia stores and range in size from 120,000 to 140,000 square feet.
The stores will be part of the West Broad Marketplace, at 12300 W. Broad Street, which is past Strange’s Greenhouse and on the same side of the road as Short Pump Towne Center.
The Nebraska-based chain Cabela’s, an outfitter for hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, will also anchor the development and is expected to open March 2016.
A Wegmans spokesperson said construction will begin on their new Midlothian store in the spring. That grocery store will open in the Stonehenge Village Shopping Center, not far from Chesterfield Towne Center, off of Midlothian Turnpike.
