Wayne Static, frontman and founder of Static-X, dies at 48

LOS ANGELES — Wayne Richard Wells, the frontman and founder of the California metal band Static-X, has died. He was 48.

The band announced Wells’ death in a Facebook post late Saturday night, but did not disclose the cause.

Wells, who performed under the name Wayne Static, founded Static-X in 1994.

The band released six albums, the most notable being 2001’s “Wisconsin Death Trip,” which went platinum.
