CONEWAGO TOWNSHIP, Penn. — A York County woman is behind bars after police say she beat her mother with a hammer and a frying pan in an attempt to kill her, according to a report from WPMT.
According to charging documents, Kimberly Jacobs, 47, called police on September 5th and told officers that she just tried to beat her mother to death and to send an ambulance.
Northern York County Regional Police along with emergency crews responded to the 700 block of Butter Road in Conewago Township and found Jacobs’ mother, Lenore, badly beaten. According to court documents, Lenore suffered multiple skull fractures and lost a large amount of blood. While being transported to the hospital, the mother told officials ” My daughter was trying to kill me because I was crying. She just kept hitting me.”
Jacobs told police that she had been taking care of her mother for a number of years due to ongoing health problems. Her father who suffers from dementia, was able to help with day-to-day care but recently his health took a turn for the worse– leaving all the duties to Kimberly.
According to court documents, Jacob’s mother told her daughter on Sept. 4 that she and her father would most likely have to go to an assisted living facility and she wanted her to come with them and continue to help take care of them both.
Jacobs told police that she decided to kill her mother and father because she felt that taking care of them would never end. After killing them both, she planned to kill herself, court documents state.
In an interview with police Jacobs told investigators that after she helped her mother to the bathroom, she went to the kitchen, grabbed a frying pan and started to hit her mother over the head, expecting to kill her. Jacobs told police, she thought she would only need to hit her mother once. She soon realized the pan was not heavy enough. So she went back to the kitchen, grabbed a four-pound hammer and began to hit her mother with that, officers said.
Jacobs told police that she hit her mother a total of 20 times with the frying pan and hammer.
Jacobs also stated that she planned on killing her mother first and then her father because it would have been easier and she would have less resistance.
Prior to being arrested a detective overheard Jacobs saying “I just wanted peace and quiet.”
Jacobs waived her preliminary hearing. She is being charged with criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
She remains at York County Prison in lieu of $1 million bail.
Lenore Jacobs was released from the hospital and was taken to a nursing rehab center.
