RICHMOND, Va. – Nearly 2,000 customers were without power for in Richmond’s historic Jackson Ward near VCU Medical Center Friday afternoon after some Mylar balloons got tangled in a power line.

According to Dominion Virginia Power, 1900 customers were without electricity as of 4 p.m.

“Please treat all malfunctioning traffic lights as 4-way STOPS! #rva #VCU,” Dominion tweeted.

The company’s interactive power outage tracker estimated that power would be restored between 6 and 8 p.m.

However, the electricity was out for about 50 minutes as crews worked to remove the balloons and reset the circuit.
