RICHMOND, Va. — An organization whose mission is to help lighten the financial load for Virginia students awarded more than $34,000 to deserving students over the weekend. The KLM Scholarship Foundation awards the money to help students pay for college textbooks.

During the recent Scholar Awards ceremony at Linwood Holton Elementary, emcee and CBS 6 news reporter Shelby Brown assisted the KLM Scholarship Foundation present scholarships to 34 students. Those students will be attending 10 different Virginia colleges and universities.

Students awarded scholarships demonstrated strong academics and exceptional community leadership qualities.

The KLM Scholarship Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) run by volunteers. It has served the commonwealth since 2002, distributing 145 scholarships totaling more than $113,000.

This year’s named scholarships were awarded on behalf of area companies including UPS, EnVogue Hair Salons, MLH Assets Management, Lowe’s, The Virginia Lottery, Nationwide, Ernst & Young and Radio One.
