RICHMOND, Va. — One of Richmond’s beloved doughnut shops reports that they were robbed Monday evening, at the Lombardy Street location. Police said a tip jar was stolen.
“We just got robbed by a mid 20s make [male] who is currently hiding in VUU campus. Cash reward if someone knows him. Police are searching campus now,” the bakery wrote on their Facebook page.
CBS 6 reached out to police who confirmed they looked around the area, and no suspect was found. Police also said that the crime is not considered a robbery, because nothing was taken by force. They said a tip jar was taken, and the crime is considered a larceny.
This is a developing story.
Sugar Shack has been in this location for just over a year. They first opened in June 2013, and have since expanded.
Owner Ian Kelley told Richmond BizSense that on a bad day the Lombardy Street location sells 2,000 doughnuts. He said that on a good day, the shop sells between 4,000 and 5,000.
