HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — The Henrico student who started a petition to have the Freeman High School mascot reinstated met with her principal Wednesday.
Rising Senior Alecsys Brown recently gathered several hundred signatures to keep the school’s “Rebel Man” as the school’s official mascot after a questionnaire was given to students indicated that a lion might instead be the school’s preferred mascot.
A spokesman for Henrico schools said while it’s still unclear what the mascot will be, it will not be the “Rebel Man.”
But he said there will be further discussion about the mascot when school resumes in the fall.
