LAGUNA HILLS, Ca. -- A California man set a record when he gave blood for his 1000th time.

Matthew Murphy of Westminister, California.

Matthew Murphy, 57, rolled up his sleeve at the Red Cross, business as usual on Friday.

Murphy has been donating every two weeks since 1991. He now holds the record for the most platelets donated in the Southern California area.

His donation couldn’t come at a better time. Red Cross officials say they see a dip in donors around this time of year as many people go on vacation.
