Hampton teen fatally shot after answering door

HAMPTON, Va. (WTKR) -- A teenager in Hampton is dead after opening his door to a gun. Police say he was shot after he opened his front door when someone rang the bell.

Police received a call around 10:49 p.m. Thursday on Downing Street.

When they arrived they found a 17-year-old, identified as Adonus Deondre Turner, suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper and lower torso inside his residence.

Turner was transported to a local hospital, where his condition continued to deteriorate. He later died.

Police say they do not think this was a random act of violence and are asking the public for help in identifying the suspect or suspects in the homicide, which occurred on Downing Street.

Anyone with information that will assist police is encouraged to contact the Hampton Police Division at 727-6111 or the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. Tipsters can also send an anonymous tip via text message to the Crime Line by texting HAMPTONPDTIPS plus your tip” to 274637 (CRIMES). Crime Line callers remain anonymous and never appear in court. If a Crime Line call results in an arrest, the caller is eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
