RICHMOND (WTVR) - VCU officials released artist renderings of what the school's new basketball facility will look like.
Construction is scheduled to begin June 2nd on the 60,000 square foot building which will rise at the corner of Kinney and Marshall streets directly behind the Siegel Center.
“We’re excited about having Barton Malow and VMDO Architects, two of the best in their respective fields, working on this project for our student-athletes and our basketball programs,” Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin said. “We want to provide our student-athletes with the best possible experience and provide our coaches with the tools they need to continue to excel here at VCU. We believe that these two partners will do exactly that and we can’t wait to see the project progress over the next 15 months.”
The complex will include practice courts and viewing decks for both the men’s and women’s basketball programs, as well as nearby locker rooms, strength and conditioning center, training room with a hydrotherapy room and video viewing rooms.
The facility will feature student-athlete lounges, player dining rooms and an academic center. It will also house administrative suites and offices for both the men’s and women’s basketball coaching staffs.
In addition, a Hall of Fame exhibit will highlight the main lobby.
Construction is expected be completed in the fall of 2015.
