CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — Officials said a Marine standing guard at Camp Lejeune’s Main Gate discharged an M4 rifle, killing another Marine guard around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to reports from our affiliate WGHP.
Identification will be withheld until the next of kin is notified.
The Base Provost Marshal has stated the incident is being considered neither as an act of terrorism nor an active shooter event at this time.
Authorities said the shooting is under investigation by Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
