CHARLES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) — Virginia State Police are investigating a deadly single-vehicle wreck on John Tyler Memorial Highway (Route 5) just west of Wilcox Neck Road (Route 623) in Charles City County.
According to state police, crews responded around 3:15 a.m. after the driver of a 2004 Ford F-150 traveling westbound, ran off the right side of the road. The driver over-corrected, ran off the left side of the road and then hit a tree. Investigators said that impact with the tree caused the vehicle to burst into flames.
Officials said the adult male driver and adult male passenger died at the scene.
The identity of the deceased is pending identification by the medical examiner’s office and next of kin notification.
Route 5 was closed for over five hours to allow for the on-going crash investigation.
