Suspicious package ties up traffic near state Capitol

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A suspicious package closed off several busy streets near the Virginia State Capitol Thursday afternoon.

Traffic was shutdown on Broad Street, 8th, 9th, Governor’s Street as well as Franklin and Grace.

Richmond police tweeted just after 5 p.m. that they were investigating an unattended backpack that was found in a walkway between two Virginia State Capitol buildings.

The closure created big traffic delays for commuters leaving the city.

As of 5:10 p.m., Richmond police gave the all clear and said the was no danger. It turns out the items were a backpack, lunch bag and thermos.
