RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)–The promoters bill it as the first outdoor event of the season, and this year it’s changing venues.
The promoters announced on their website that the 11th Annual Shamrock the Block will take place on the Boulevard, near Broad Street.
The date is set for March 15, aka the Ides of March.
This new venue comes a year after a fracas left residents and neighbors concerned that the area was too small for the event.
Charges were eventually dropped against a man who was initially charged with obstruction of justice and being drunk in public after he tried to intervene while police arrested his twin brother. Video of the confrontation was posted on YouTube and viewed more than 175,000 times.
Promoters said that this venue will allow more space and better parking.
In October 2013 the Boulevard Pumpkin Festival became the first event to shut down the popular thoroughfare (in decades). Thousands safely attended the food event.
Shamrock The Block is free to attend and offers food, green beer and live music all day.
Promoters say that last year, more than 30,000 people attended. With the move to the Boulevard, promoters intend to expand the kid’s activities, the band lineup and “have more things to do and see.”
