VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WTKR) — The Coast Guard rescued two people Saturday from a fishing boat taking on water about 40 miles east of False Cape State Park in Virginia Beach.
Crew members aboard the Lauren Dorothy, a 53-foot fishing boat, contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center at 6:30 p.m. Saturday asking for help.
Crews aboard an HC-130 Hercules aircraft and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., responded.
The Hercules crew arrived on scene at at 7:10 p.m. and established communications with the boat’s crew.
Afterwards, the Jayhawk crew arrived on the scene, hoisted the two people into the helicopter and took them to Air Station Elizabeth City.
American Red Cross personnel helped crew members.
No one was injured.
