One dead, one injured after South Richmond apartment fire

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)–There was one reported fatality at a fire in a South Richmond apartment building that also left residents displaced,  and one injured.

The fire was in South Richmond across the Lee Bridge, in the 1900 block of Stonewall Avenue. Crews arrived on scene around 8 p.m. and found the fire in a sixth floor apartment.

Multiple companies responded to the call.

Lt. Robert Hagaman with the fire department said that one adult female was found deceased inside the apartment building. She will be taken to the Medical Examiner's office to determine exact cause of death. The fire is still under investigation.

All occupants are out out and being sheltered in the building across the street. One person with injuries was taken  to VCU Medical Center.
