UPDATE: “A body has been discovered at Watkins Landing boat ramp in Powhatan. At this time, we are not releasing any details regarding the specific location of the body, or the date and time it was discovered,” Henrico Police spokeswoman Linda Toney wrote in an email. “The identity of the deceased is unknown at this time. Jaime Cruz-Avila is still considered missing.”
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Henrico Police and the Powhatan Sheriff’s Office are working to find out what happened to Jaime Cruz-Avila. The 24-year-old man was last seen Wednesday, February 5.
“On Thursday, February 6, 2014, a burned vehicle was located in Powhatan at Watkins Landing boat ramp at Route 711 west of Route 288. The vehicle was owned by Mr. Cruz-Avila,” police said.
Earlier that day Henrico Police responded to Cruz-Avila's home along the 2500 block of Dickens Glen Court for a suspicious situation.
"Officers found evidence at the scene indicating the male may be in danger," Henrico Police spokeswoman Lt. Linda Toney wrote in an email.
Cruz-Avila is described as a Hispanic male, 5’6”, 178 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket or sweater with a white graphic design on the front.
"Henrico County Police is seeking the public's assistance in locating Mr. Cruz-Avila. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact Henrico Police at (804) 501-5000 or Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000," Toney said.
