Attic fan sparked Chesterfield house fire

UPDATE: “Fire Marshals determined the fire to be accidental as a result of a fan in the attic that was being powered by an extension cord,” Chesterfield Fire and EMS spokesman Lt. Jason Elmore wrote in an email.

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – A fire originated in the attic of a home in the 1600 block of Knollwood Avenue, off Robious Road in Chesterfield.

The area is near Johnston WIllis Hospital. The fire began around 4 p.m. Tuesday and firefighter arrived to heavy fire showing. They originally thought there were two juveniles in the home when they arrived, but they were not.

There was smoke damage throughout the house, and fire damage to the attic.

The fire has displaced four people; two adults and two juveniles.

The cause is under investigation. The family is being assisted by the Red Cross.
